International Film Circuit has acquired US rights to the Cambodian genocide documentary Enemies Of ThePeople.

Wendy Lidell, president of International Film Circuit, negotiated the deal with co-director Rob Lemkin and International Film Circuit plans a limited release in the summer.

Lemkin and Cambodian journalist Thet Sambath directed the film, which purports to expose for the first time the truth behind the Killing Fields and the murderous Khmer Rouge.

Enemies Of The People has won numerous awards including the World Cinema competition jury special prize at Sundance, the grand jury award at Full Frame, and the Nestor Almendros Prize for Courage In Filmmaking at the upcoming Human Rights Watch Film Festival.

“This is a landmark work of investigative journalism that even the Cambodian courts are trying to get their hands on,” Lidell said. “American audiences will be stunned.”

International Film Circuit has been releasing independent films in the US since 1987. The company’s documentary releases include Yoo-Hoo, Mrs Goldberg, The Devil Came On Horseback, and Darwin’s Nightmare.
