Iron Man 2 stayed top in its second weekend, beating back the challenge of Universal’s Robin Hood.

Universal’s adventure Robin Hood succumbed to Iron Man 2 as Marvel Studios’ superhero stayed top in its second weekend on an estimated $53m, raising the running total through Paramount to $212.2m.

Robin Hood meanwhile had to settle for a somewhat underwhelming $37.1m, which combined with the impressive $74m overseas launch gave rise to $111.1m worldwide.

Summit Entertainment opened the romance Letters To Juliet starring Amanda Seyfried in third place on $13.8m, while some way behind in fourth was Fox Searchlight’s new release Just Wright starring Queen Latifah and Common on $8.5m.

How To Train Your Dragon in fifth crossed $200m in its eighth weekend as $5.1m boosted the tally to $207.8m.

Next weekend’s wide releases are: DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek Forever After through Paramount; and Universal’s comedy MacGruber.
