Jeanie Finlay’s documentary picked up worldwide, excluding UK/Ireland, by London-based sales and distribution company.

Following its SXSW premiere and UK acquisition by Vertigo last month, Kaleidoscope Film Distribution has acquired worldwide rights, excluding UK and Ireland, to The Great Hip Hop Hoax.

Jeanie Finlay’s documentary follows Californian hip-hop duo Silibil n’ Brains who were really students from Scotland.

Caroline Stern, director of acquisitions & internationals sales at Kaleidoscope, commented: “We’re big fans of great documentary filmmaking at Kaleidoscope. The Great Hip Hop Hoax is unforgettable and hugely entertaining.

“Jeanie demystifies a seemingly impossible story about two Scots who fooled the music industry, while subtly questioning what it means to be genuine. We look forward to announcing US plans and launching to our international client base in Cannes.”

The Great Hip Hop Hoax was produced by Glimmer Films and Met film production for BBC Storyville, BBC Scotland and Creative Scotland and will have its market premiere in Cannes.

Producer Al Morrow added: “Glimmer and Met are really thrilled by Kaleidoscope’s passion and plans for The Great Hip Hop Hoax and we’re looking forward to seeing the film reach a global audience.”
