The multiple Oscar nominee grossed a further $11.2m from 1,180 screens in 17 territories at the weekend as the international total surged to $67m.

FilmNation handled the majority of foreign sales and reported that the film opened in Italy in fifth place through Eagle on $1.3m from 165. Eagle plans to expand the screen count to 200 this weekend.

The King’s Speech debuted in second place in Poland on $583,000 from 58 screens and launched in Israel through Shani Films on $194,000 from 17.

In other notable debuts the historical drama grossed $133,000 in the UAE from nine prints and $13,000 in Iceland from four.

Latest tallies put the film at $38.6m in the UK through Momentum, $18m in Australia and $1.4m in New Zealand, both through Paramount Pictures International.
