Le Pacte has secured a slew of sales on Afghan writer Atiq Rahimi’s upcoming The Patience Stone, which made its first market outing with a promo reel at Berlin.
Thus far, the picture has sold to Filmcoopi for Switzerland, Seville Pictures for Canada, Cinéart for Benelux and Immovision for Brazil. Le Pacte sales chief Camille Neel also noted strong interest from the US and Australia.
The film, scheduled for delivery in time for Cannes, is an adaptation of Rahimi’s novel about a young, Afghan woman trying to make sense of life as she cares for her husband, a former fighter left brain-dead after being shot in the neck.
Le Pacte also sealed early deals on Guillaume Nicloux’s period drama The Nun – an adaptation of Denis Diderot’s eponymous classic – which started production just before Berlin.
Switzerland’s Frenetic, Canada’s Seville Pictures and Germany’s Camino picked up the film on the basis of the script.
The feature stars Belgian actress Pauline Etienne as a young novice opposite Isabelle Huppert, as a kindly mother superior, and Louise Bourgoin as a sadistic sister who preys on the heroine.
Le Pacte also consolidated sales on Thierry Ragobert’s 3D jungle fantasy Amazonia about a small, domesticated monkey trying to survive in the wild.
Sales were recently concluded with Germany (Polyband), UK (Kaleidoscope), India (Picture Works), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Benelux (Cinéart), Russia (Luxor), former Yugoslavia (MCF), Czech Republic (Hollywood), China (Hualu), Latin America (Immovision) and Canada (Seville).
