Belgian distributor Belga Films is to release Lionsgate’s titles in Benelux following proven success with The Hunger Games and Twilight.

The move forms part of Lionsgate’s ongoing strategy to establish output agreements with leading distributors around the world.

This has seen recent partnerships with StudioCanal (Germany), Nordisk Films (Scandinavia), Alliance’s Aurum Producciones (Spain), Roadshow Pictures (Australia) and Metropolitan Filmworks (France) as well as self-distribution through Lionsgate UK and a self-distribution deal with IDC in Latin America.

“From Summit’s Twilight saga to Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games, we have partnered successfully with Belga on our big franchise films in the past, and this new agreement is a natural evolution of our productive relationship,” said Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman, co-chairs of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

Jerome de Bethune, COO of Belga Films, said the deal would provide “a consistant pipeline of some of the most commercially exciting films in the world”.

The deal was negotiated for Lionsgate by Wachsberger and Lionsgate EVP international legal and business affairs Michael Meyer.
