Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American theatrical and HISTORY has taken US broadcast rights to Participant Media’s nuclear disarmament documentary Countdown To Zero.

The combined deals were in the low seven figures as the latest transaction on a Sundance film emerged.

Lucy Walker’s film is based on the premise that the prospect of nuclear catastrophe is as great now as it has ever been. Jimmy Carter, Mikhail Gorbachev, Tony Blair and Pershev Musharraf are among the talking heads.

Countdown To Zero premiered at Sundance and was produced by Lawrence Bender. Diane Weyermann, Bruce Blair and Matt Brown served as executive producers.

Magnolia’s senior vice-president Tom Quinn and the company’s Dori Begley negotiated with Josh Braun and Jason Janego of Submarine and Jeff Ivers, COO of Participant Media. Peter Gaffney represented History.

National Geographic and Roadside Attractions has also been pursuing the film.
