Memento Films International has sold Asghar Farhadi’s Golden Bear winner Nader and Simin, A Separation to several key territories, off the back of its successful screenings at Toronto and now San Sebastian.

Deals have been secured with Magic Hour & Doma Inc for Japan, Artcam for the Czech Republic/Slovakia, Cine Video y TV for Mexico and Empresa Cines Unidos for Venezuela.

The film, which has been screening in the Zabaltegi Pearls section at the San Sebastian film festival for the last few days, takes place in contemporary Iran and chronicles the end of a marriage. Simin wants to leave Iran with her husband Nader and daughter Termeh and sues for divorce when her husband refuses to leave behind his alzheimer suffering father.

Farhadi picked up the Golden Bear at the Berlinale earlier this year for A Separation and was previously named best director at the 2009 Berlinale for his film About Elly.
