Earlier in the day IFC confirmed it had acquired North American rights from Hal Sadoff on behalf of financier Doha Film Institute and Bart Walker of Cinetic Media to The Reluctant Fundamentalist directed by Mira Nair. Liev Schreiber, Kate Hudson, Kiefer Sutherland, and Riz Ahmed star.

  • Magnolia Pictures took US theatrical rights to No Place On Earth from US TV rights holder History Films and will release in 2013. Janet Tobias’ documentary chronicles the Jewish family that took refuse in cave for two years to evade Nazi capture.   • Strand Releasing took US rights to Pablo Trapero’s White Elephant from Wild Bunch. The crime drug set in the slums of Buenos Aires stars Ricardo Darin and Jeremie Renier and received its North American premiere in Toronto on Thursday. Wild Bunch’s Carole Baraton and Strand’s Marcus Hu negotiated the deal.

HBO Documentary Films acquired US TV rights to Tom Donahue’s Casting By in a deal brokered with Josh Braun of Submarine on behalf of producers Genmaicha, CreativeChaos vmg and Our8s.

  • Grindhouse Entertainment and Lionsgate Home Entertainment acquired North American rights to Soi Cheang’s street racing thriller Motorway following its premiere in Toronto on Wednesday night (12). Johnnie To produced and John Chong and Song Dai served as executive producers on the Media Asia Films and Sil-Metropole presentation of a Milkyway Image Production.

In a non-Toronto acquisition, Wrekin Hill has taken US rights to Kat Coiro’s While We Were Here, which premiered at Tribeca earlier in the year. Kate Bosworth, Jamie Blackley and Iddo Goldberg star in romantic drama. Lauren Bratman produced while Paris Kasidokostas Latsis and Terry Douglas of 1821 Pictures served as executive producer. Wrekin Hill president and CEO Chris Ball and Rene Cogan negotiated with WME Global. Arclight Films handles international sales.

IFC Films has also acquired Eron Sheean’s thriller Errors Of The Human Body starring Karoline Herfurth, Tomas Lemarquis, Rik Mayall and Michael Eklund. Rio Film Festival. Darryn Welch and Cole Payne produced and IFC Films brokered the deal with XYZ Films.
