Disney and Netflix announce significant deals on first morning of TV market.

At a lunchtime keynote talk at MIPCOM (Oct 3-6) in Cannes Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos revealed an exclusive US, Latin America and Canada deal for mafia-based dramedy series Lilyhammer, the next title in Netflix’s push for more original TV content.

Lilyhammer follows a reformed criminal who testified against his mafia boss in New York and entered the Witness Protection Programme in the Norwegian countryside and stars former E Street Band member and Sopranos regular Stevie van Zandt.

The show is produced by Rubicon and distributed by SevenOne International.

The move follows Netlix’s high profile acquisition of David Fincher’s House of Cards.

In other news Disney has secured 80 sales on its ABC Studios drama Missing, starring Ashley Judd [pictured], which is world premiering in Cannes this evening.

Deals were sewn up with Fox Channels Italy, Fox Channels Russia and Ukraine, AXN Spain and Portugal, Mediaset Spain, RTÉ Ireland, AXN Central & Eastern Europe, Digiturk Turkey, SBS TV (Kanal 5 Sweden), TVNorge Norway and SBS Denmark. OSN has licensed the series to air in countries across the Middle East, while in Asia it has been picked up for pan-Asian coverage by Fox International Channels (Asia) and has also been sold to Youku.com and Tudou.com in China, NextTV in Taiwan, and MioTV in Singapore.

Shot in Prague, Dubrovnik and Istanbul, the thriller tells the story of former CIA agent Becca Winstone (Ashley Judd), who must travel to Europe to try and find her young son who has disappeared while studying abroad.
