Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired North American rights to Frederick Gertten’s courtroom documentary, Bananas!*
The film follows 12 Nicaraguan workers as they battle Dole Food Corporation for its use of a banned pesticide on their plantation.
Bananas*! premiered at the 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival and played as a special presentation at the 2010 Berlinale. O-Scope plans an autumn release.
André Holland, Andra Day, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor star.
The film will play in the Special Screenings section of the festival.
Tom Tykwer’s German thriller was a breakout for the director and his star star Franka Potente.
