Snow White and Prometheus take on Men in Black

Universal Pictures International is launching Snow White and the Huntsman in 45 international territories concurrent with the film’s June 1 opening in the US. The big budget fantasy adventure opens this weekend in markets including the UK, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Mexico and Korea.

Openings in Australia, Japan, France, Italy and around 16 other territories will follow over the next few months.

Fox International is launching Prometheus in three major international territories and a dozen smaller markets a week ahead of the film’s US debut. The action sci-fi outing opened in France on Wednesday (May 30) and Russia on Thursday (May 31) and arrives in the UK on Friday (June 1).

Fox also opened The Sitter (whose international gross stands at $4.6m) in Germany on Thursday and introduces Margaret to Italy on Friday.

Meanwhile the studio reported that Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, whose international total as of May 29 was $81.4m, has passed the $100m mark in worldwide box office.

Pirates! The Band of Misfits sails into China on Friday through Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI) having taken $78.6m internationally through May 27. SPRI also opens The Vow (with $65.5m internationally through May 27) in Japan on Friday.

Sony’s Men in Black 3, which blasted into 103 markets (as well as the US) last weekend and ended up with $135.3m from international by the end of Sunday, adds the Czech Republic and Pakistan to its roster this weekend.

Paramount Pictures International opened Hugo in China on Thursday.

Marvel’s The Avengers should this weekend become the third highest global grosser of all time, according to distributor Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International.

As of May 29 the comic-based blockbuster had amassed $784.7m internationally and surpassed all other Marvel films - including Spider-Man and its sequels - outside North America.

Adding a domestic gross of $527.2m brought the film’s global total to $1,311.9m, leaving The Avengers only $16m behind current global number three Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
