Russell Brand teams with Michael Winterbottom on financial crisis doc.

StudioCanal will be introducing AFM buyers to 3D animation Robinson Crusoe and Michael Winterbottom doc The Emperor’s New Clothes, starring firebrand comedian Russell Brand.

The latter, produced under Winterbottom’s Revolution Films banner, will see comedian and activist Brand journey from the heart of London’s financial district to New York.

The polemical doc will include documentary, interviews, archive footage and comedy.

Ben Stassen of nWave Pictures and director Vincent Kestelootare are behind the 3D animated update of the Robinson Crusoe tale.

Robinson Crusoe is told from the perspective of Crusoe’s dear companion Tuesday, an outgoing parrot who dreams of discovering the world.

Both titles are currently in production.

The French powerhouse will continue to shop James Watkins’ Bastille Day, starring Idris Elba, and Tobias Lindholm’s A War.

Max Joseph’s We Are Your Friends, starring Zak Efron, is in post-production, as are Luca Guadagnino’s A Bigger Splash, Justin Kurzel’s Macbeth and Brian Helgeland’s Legend.

The company will screen Paddington, Shaun the Sheep and action-thriller The Gunman.
