Walden Media / Fox’s The Chronicles Of Narnia won a diffident North American session at the box office thanks to an estimated $24.5m haul.

GK Film’s romantic mystery The Tourist with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp launched through Sony in second place on $17m, while Buena Vista’s popular animated hit Tangled fell to third and has amassed $115.6m after three weekends.

Harry Potter ranks fourth on $257.7m after four, while Fox’s Unstoppable in fifth place has amassed $74.3m.

Fox Searchlight’s awards contender Black Swan from Darren Aronofsky and starring Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Vincent Cassel climbed seven places to sixth in its second weekend after adding 72 for 90 theatres. The $3.3m haul boosted the early tally to $5.6m.

Relativity Media’s awards season prospect The Fighter starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Melissa Leo and Amy Adams debuted well in limited release through paramount, which is distributing for a fee. The Fighter grossed $320,000 from four theatres for a magnificent $80,000 per-theatre average.

Next weekend’s wide release is Buena Vista’s Tron: Legacy starring Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde and Jeff Bridges; Sony’s rom-con How Do You Know with Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Jack Nicholson and Owen Wilson; and Warner Bros’ animated feature Yogi Bear.
