This Is It continued to dominate the overseas market as a further $29m from 8,800 screens in 110 markets through Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI) raised the running total to $128.6m after two weekends.

The concert film continued to rank top in many markets, adding $4.1m in Japan from 322 for $23.6m, $2.7m in France from 463 for $10.6m, $2.6m in second place in Germany from 926 for $11.1m, and $2.2m in the UK from 806 for $13.3m.

Elsewhere it took $1.7m in Australia from 292 for $6.6m, $1.4m in China from 1,900 for $5.6m, $1.3m in Holland from 107 for $4.3m, and $1.1m in sixth place in Italy from 504 for $5.5m. This Is It stands at $4.6m in Spain, $2.2m in Belgium and $2m in Brazil. The worldwide tally stands at $186.5m.

SPRI’s Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs added $2.7m for $57.8m, Julie & Julia grossed $2.4m for $27.8m, and The Ugly Truth stands at $110.7m following a $2m weekend haul.

  • Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International (WDSMPI) unleashed A Christmas Carol on 2,750 screens in 18 territories for $12m. 3D screens accounted for 62% of the result from 37% of total screens.The family release opened top in the UK and Mexico on $2.9m from 645 and $1.8m from 605, respectively.

Up added $8.4m from 4,278 in 26 territories for $367m and opens in Japan on December 5. G-Force added $2.9m from 2,227 in 28 territories for $153.5m with China, South Korea and Japan waiting in the wings. Russian local production Book Of Masters grossed $2.7m from 691 for $9.2m while Surrogates added $2.4m from 1,812 in 38 for $64.5m.

  • Universal/UPI’s comedy Couples Retreat added $5.7m from 1,596 sites in 18 territories for an early $28.8m after launching in seven new territories.

The film opened in second place in Germany behind local title Die Papstin on $2.8m from 338 venues and opened number one in Austria on $630,000 from 69 and second in Mexico on $47,000 from 235. It has taken $9.2m after five weeks in Australia and $9m in the UK after four. There are 43 territories to go.

Public Enemies opened top in Italy on an outstanding $3.5m from 319. The international total is $104.3m and Japan will be the final release on December 12.

Inglourious Basterds added $2.6m from 1,943 sites in 43 territories for $183.7m and has crossed the $300m worldwide mark factoring in the $119.6m North American tally. Japan opens on November 20. Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant added $12.5m from 1,090 sites in seven for an early $9.7m tally.

  • Fox International’s Jennifer’s Body grossed $2.3m including a $1.3m UK launch that raised the international running total to $13.8m. 500 Days Of Summer stands at £21.2m.

In its fifth week in release in Spain, Agora fell to second place and has amassed $27.3m. Fantastic Mr Fox added a further $1.2m in its third weekend din the UK for $11.1m.

Active in 39 markets, The Final Destination grossed $2.3m through Warner Bros Pictures International and New Line International territories and has reached $116.1m.

  • Paramount/PPI released the Spanish-language prison riot drama Celda 211 in first place in Spain on $1.7m from 220 locations.

Saw VI added $4.7m from 1,700 international screens through Mandate International for $16.8m, while The Men Who Stare At Goats launched on $3m from 650 screens and opened in the UK and Italy. Final figures will be released this week.
