The Weinstein Company has come on board to handle US distribution and co-finance IM Global and Antoine Fuqua’s narco-thriller.

Fuqua, the Weinsteins and Jake Gyllenhaal, who is riding high after Nightcrawler, reunite on the biopic of 1980s cocaine smuggler Max Mermelstein following their ongoing collaboration on Southpaw, which TWC distributes later this year.

Brett Tabor and Michael Kingston adapted The Man Who Made It Snow from the late Mermelstein’s autobiography. Production is set to begin later this year.

Fuqua Films, IM Global and Gyllenhaal produce what is the first film from Fuqua Film and IM Global’s production partnership announced late last year.

TWC’s David Glasser and Michal Steinberg and IM Global CEO Ford and general counsel Deborah Zipser brokered the deal. CAA negotiated on behalf of Fuqua Films and IM Global.
