UK releases: 47 Ronin set for Dec 26; Inside Llewyn Davis out Jan 24, 2014

Universal will release the long-delayed 47 Ronin on Dec 26, starring Keanu Reeves, according to the latest UK release calendar from Rentrak.

The distributor has also set dates for James DeMonaco’s The Purge (May 31), starring Ethan Hawke, and Paul Weitz’s Admission (June 14). Weitz’s biggest UK grosser is Little Fockers, which made $29.4m (£19.2m) following its release in late 2010.

Meanwhile, StudioCanal has dated Joel & Ethan Coen’s latest Inside Llewyn Davis [pictured] for Jan 24, 2014. The Coens’ last film True Grit went on to become their best UK performance at $13m (£8.5m).

As well as bringing the release of One Direction - The Movie forward one day to Aug 29, Sony will release Jerusha Hess’ romantic comedy Austenland on Sept 27.

Warner Bros has pushed back two of its autumn 2013 UK slate. Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity will now be out on Oct 18, while Sergey Bodrov’s Seventh Son, starring Julianne Moore and Jeff Bridges, is out on Oct 25.

Outside of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Cuarón’s best performance in the UK belongs to Children of Men which took $7.4m (£4.9m).

eOne has dated a number of its upcoming slate, including Baltasar Kormakur’s 2 Guns (Aug 16) and Insidious 2 (Sept 13). The first Insidious scared up $10.9m (£7.1m) in 2011.

Among the other films, the distributor has set release dates for David Twohy’s Riddick (Sept 6), Ken Scott’s Delivery Man (Oct 11), John Michael McDonagh’s Calvary (Nov 1), Anton Corbijn’s A Most Wanted Man (Nov 22), Steve McQueen’s Twelve Years A Slave (Jan 24, 2014), Jean-Marc Vallee’s The Dallas Buyers Club (Feb 7, 2014) and Paul W.S. Anderson’s Pompeii (Feb 28, 2014).

Vertigo will release Mat Whitecross’ Spike Island on June 21. Whitecross’ Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll made $1.4m (£886,760) in 2010.

Artificial Eye has pushed back Mikael Marcimain’s Call Girl to Aug 16, while also setting dates for the likes of Sarah Polley’s Stories We Tell (June 28), Laurent Cantet’s Foxfire (Aug 9) and Scott McGehee & David Siegel’s What Maisie Knew (Aug 23).
