IFC Films has acquired US rights to Nia Vardalos’ feature directorial debut I Hate Valentine’s Day, a New York-set romantic comedy in which she is reunited with her My Big Fat Greek Wedding co-star John Corbett.

Judah Friedlander, Rachel Dratch and Zoe Kazan, who just won the best actress award at Tribeca for The Exploding Girl, round out the key cast.

The story charts the romantic exploits of a carefree florist who realises she is falling head over heels for a restaurateur. Vardalos wrote the screenplay and William Sherak, Madeline Sherak and Jason Shuman produced for Blue Star Entertainment.

IFC plans to release I Hate Valentine’s Day through the IFC In Theatres VOD platform on July 1 as well as in selected in Los Angeles, New York and other key circuits.

The distributor released the phenomenally successful My Big Fat Greek Wedding in 2002.
