Wavelength takes on doc about Robert Flaherty
UK-based Wavelength Pictures has taken on international sales rights to A Boatload of Wild Irishmen, a documentary about Robert Flaherty.
Flaherty, who died in 1951, is known as the father of the documentary for his work on groundbreaking films such as Nanook of The North and Man of Aran.
A number of major film festivals are in the running to host the international premiere. A version of the film premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh.
The film is the feature debut of director Mac-Dara O’Curraidhin. Backers are The Irish Film Board, TG4, EM Media and the MEDIA Programme.
“Wavelength Pictures is proud to represent a profile of one of the major figures in the history of cinema and it is also a perfect opportunity to build on the success of multi-award winning documentary The Arbor. Both are films that go to the heart of the matter in terms of how documentaries are edited, shaped and interpreted by the people who make them” said Wavelength’s managing director John Flahive.
