The Weinstein Company has acquired all US rights and pan Asian pay TV from Icon to Ralph Fiennes’ directorial debut Coriolanus, ahead of its world premiere in Berlin on Monday.

The distributor plans a 2011 release on Fiennes’ Balkan-set modern interpretation of Shakespeare’s politically charged play.

Fiennes stars alongside Gerard Butler, Vanessa Redgrave, Brian Cox, Jessica Chastain and James Nesbitt.

The deal was negotiated for Icon by Hugo Grumbar and Estelle Overs, General Counsel, with TWC’s COO David Glasser, Michal Steinberg, Kelly Carmichael, and Daniel Guando.

Rights previously sold include Lionsgate for the UK, Savor for Spain, Tanweer Group for India, Star Media for Scandinavia, TMC for Turkey, AQS for Czech Republic, Lusomundo for Portugal, Odeon for Greece, Tandem for Bulgaria, MCF Megacom for former Yugoslavia, Sena for Iceland, Prime Pictures for the Middle East, Independent for Israel, California for Latin America, Sahamongkol for Thailand, E-Stars for China, SSG for Taiwan and Golden Scene for Hong Kong.
