Well Go USA Entertainment has partnered with Fox International Productions (FIP) on the North American release of Hong-jin Na’s thriller, set to premiere out of competition in Cannes.
FIP produced The Wailing (Goksung), which stars Hwang Jung-min, Chun Woo-hee, and Kwak Do-won and marks Na’s first film in six years and eagerly awaited follow-up to The Yellow Sea.
The thriller takes place in a village where an investigating officer enlists the help of a shaman after the arrival of a mysterious man coincides with an outbreak of brutal murders.
Well Go USA Entertainment will release The Wailing on May 27 and FIP will open in South Korea on May 12.
Last year, Well Go acquired Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s The Assassin ahead of its Cannes debut.
Well Go USA Entertainment president and CEO Doris Pfardrescher negotiated the deal with FIP’s vice-president of business operations Dmitry Kaplun.
