Wide has a Bad Hair day; Wide House closes Gang deal

Two new pick-ups for Wide Management and a documentary deal for Wide House.

Wide Management has taken on Arun Tamm and Andres Kõpper’s Estonian dark comedy-thriller Bad Hair Friday (Vasaku Jala Reede) [pictured], a local hit described by some as Tarantino in Tallinn.

And the company is also now handling Marcos Prado’s Brazilian hit romance Artificial Paradises (Paraisos Artificiais), which the company says is close to a North American deal.

Sister company doc specialist Wide House has sold Robert E Ball Jr’s documentary 213 The Gang Project to Ascot Elite for German-speaking territories. Deals are in play for the UK and Australia. The documentary is a look at gang members, some in prison, and their wives in East Los Angeles.

Wide House’s slate also includes Hala Alabdalla’s Arab artists project As If We Were Catching A Cobra (which starts screening in TIFF Docs today). The company is close to a US deal on Francesco Patierno’s TIFF Cinematheque selection The War of Volcanoes: Bergman and Magnani.
