EXCLUSIVE: UK distributor picks up theatrical and home ent rights to Cannes and Toronto entry.

Dogwoof has taken UK theatrical and home entertainment rights to Mark Cousins’ Cannes Classics documentary A Story of Children and Film.

The deal was brokered by Oli Harbottle, head of Distribution for Dogwoof, with producer and journalist Adam Dawtrey.

The UK cinema release is planned for spring 2014.

Following on from his epic documentary series The Story of Film: An Odyssey, Cousins’ latest film is a globe-spanning rumination on children in cinema.

It gets its North American premiere on September 4 in the TIFF Docs strand at the Toronto Film Festival.  Previous festival berths include Cannes, Edinburgh, Karlovy Vary and Telluride.

Written and directed by Cousins, and produced by Mary Bell and Adam Dawtrey of BofA Productions, the film was funded by the BFI in association with Film4, with Hanway Films handling  sales outside the UK.

“The whole team at Dogwoof have long been huge fans of Mark and his unique work in the documentary space - we are all delighted to have the chance to bring this film to UK audiences in spring 2014,” said Harbottle.
