A new festival celebrating the diversity of Scottish cinema whilst showcasing films from around the globe is set to launch in June.

The Dunoon Film Festival will run for three days, from June 14-16, screening the best of current Scottish filmmaking and previous stand out features. The festival also aims to revive some neglected classics and give emerging talent a platform.

Organisers are also set to welcome major Scottish film personalities to Dunoon to present their work and the Year of Natural Scotland being represented throughout the festivals’ individual film choices.

A three-day ‘summer school’ for breakout filmmakers will precede the event, in association with Glasgow Short Film Festival, featuring industry mentors and also offering a programme of events for schools and families. Acknowledging the success of small festivals in Cromarty, Bo’ness and elsewhere across the country, Dunoon Film Festival aims to become a vital annual contribution to Scotland’s rich and diverse film culture.

“I am really excited by all the ideas and hopes we have for the first Dunoon Film Festival,” says the festival’s curator Allan Hunter. ” It is a wonderful opportunity to create something completely fresh that can make its own distinctive contribution to Scotland’s love affair with the movies. We aim to blend familiar classics with rare gems in a programme that is accessible to everyone from dedicated film buffs to fun-loving families.”
