eOne strikes multi-territory deal for The Good Lie.

eOne has inked a multi-territory deal for script The Good Lie, which will star Reese Witherspoon.

The deal for UK, Spain, Benelux and Australia/NZ marks eOne’s first acquisition for Spain after its acquisition of Alliance.

Lionsgate International represented international rights on behalf of the film’s producers.

From Canadian director Philippe Falardeau (Monsieur Lazhar), The Good Lie tells the story of a young refugee of the Sudanese Civil War who wins a lottery for relocation to the US with three other lost boys.

They develop an unlikely friendship with a brash American woman (Witherspoon) assigned to help them, but the young man struggles to adjust to his new life and his feelings of guilt about the brother he left behind.

Written by Margaret Nagle (Boardwalk Empire), Ron Howard and Brian Grazer produce with Molly Smith and Karen Kahela Sherwood. Kim Roth and Deepak Nayar are executive producers.

The deal was negotiated by eOne’s worldwide acquisitions lead Lara Thompson, evp, filmed entertainment for eOne.
