K5 to handle sales, eOne to distribute in Canada.

Shoot is underway in Ontario on drama Born To Be Blue starring Ethan Hawke as iconic jazz trumpeter Chet Baker.

Written and directed by Robert Budreau (That Beautiful Somewhere) the biopic will chart Baker’s tumultuous career, including his meteoric rise and road to redemption after his self-destructive instincts almost derail him.

Carmen Ejogo (The Purge: Anarchy) and Callum Keith Rennie (Fifty Shades of Grey) co-star.

K5 will introduce the project to buyers at the AFM. eOne has boarded Canadian rights.

Producers are Jennifer Jonas and Leonard Farlinger of New Real Films, Budreau of Lumanity Productions and Jake Seal of Black Hangar Studios.

Executive producers include William Santor, John Hills, Andrew Chang-sang of Productivity Media, Adam Moryto, Stefan Jacobs, D. Matt Geller and Gurpreet Chandhoke.

“Chet Baker was and remains a truly iconic figure, but the real strength of this project is the incredibly powerful love story at its heart,” said K5’s co-founders Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur.

“Robert Budreau has a clear and brilliant vision for the film that we are sure will resonate with audiences everywhere,” added K5 partner and head of sales, Carl Clifton.
