Munich-based sales outfit readies comedy The Sandman (Der Sandmann) for Cannes.

Beatrix Wesle’s Munich-based sales company will handle Swiss-born director Peter Luisi’s comedy The Sandman (Der Sandmann) which won the audience award at the Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival in Saarbrücken in January and was nominated in three categories for this year’s Swiss Film Prize.

Luisi, who studied film production at the University of California in Santa Cruz, has also picked up various awards at film festivals in North America this month, including the Crossroads Film Festival in Jacksonville, Colorado’s Indie Spirit Film Festival and the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival.

The Sandman will open theatrically in Switzerland, Germany and Austria this summer. German distributor Neue Visionen Filmverleih and Austria’s Polyfilm were recently awarded distribution support by Swiss Films for the release of Luisi’s film.

Atrix’s Cannes line-up also includes the documentaries In The Beginning There Was Light, Byambasuren Davaa’s Two Horses Of Genghis Khan - which will open in France in July - and Anna Justice’s drama Remembrance (Die Verlorene Zeit).
