EastWest Filmdistribution has pickedup international distribution rights for two films having world premieres in Cannes this year.

It will be handling Indian director Vimukthi Jayasundara’s third feature Chatrak (Mushroom) which will have its world premiere in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar.

The Indian-French feature centres on a young Bengali architect who sets off with his girlfriend into the forest to try and find his brother who is said to have gone mad. Despite appearances, the two brothers may have a lot in common.

Jayasundara’s feature debut The Forsaken Land had been shown in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard in 2005 when it won the Caméra d’Or for best first feature.

The Vienna-based sales company has also added David Wnendt’s Combat Girls (Kriegerin) which is his graduation film from the University of Film & Television “Konrad Wolf” in Babelsberg.

The Cannes market premiere of this coming of age drama about two young women trying to find their way out of a violent, neo-Nazi environment will also be the film’s world premiere.
