Three documentaries have been shortlisted for the European Film Academy Prix Arte Award.

Wim Wenders’ Pina, Leonard Retel Helmrich’s Position Among The Stars and Victor Kossakovsky’s ¡Vivan Las Antipodas! will compete for the EFA Prix Arte Award.

Helmrich’s Position Among The Stars (the third part of his trilogy on Indonesia, which follows a Christian-Islamic family) won the top prizes at IDFA last year as well as the world cinema jury prize at Sundance, and has been picked up for the UK by Dogwoof. ¡Vivan Las Antipodas! will screen at the upcoming Doha Tribeca Film Festival next week. Wenders’ Pina world premiered in competition at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year.

The films were chosen by a committee consisting of NFTS director Nik Powell (UK), EFA board member Despina Mouzaki (Greece), EFA member Francine Brücher (Switzerland), Claas Danielsen (International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, Germany), Ally Derks (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, the Netherlands), Jacques Laurent (producer, Belgium), and ARTE-observer Martin Pieper.

The nominated documentary films will be made available to all 2,500 members of the European Film Academy who will vote for the winner.

The prize will be presented at the 24th European Film Awards on Dec 3 in Berlin.
