Kaurismaki’s The Man Without A Past screened at Sarajevo in 2002
Aki Kaurismaki’s Cannes Competition entry Le Havre will open the 17th edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival.
A comedy drama set in the titular French port town, Le Havre tells the story of an elderly, down-at-heel shoeshine man with a literary past and an ailing wife, who rallies his friends and neighbours in order to help him save a young African refugee from the clutches of the law and send him to relatives in London. It is the second Finnish director’s second film in French.
The film won the FIPRESCI prize at Cannes and was ranked second by Screen International’s Cannes critics’ jury.
Le Havre will screen on the festival’s opening night at the National Theatre and !hej Open Cinema and will be presented by the film’s lead actor, André Wilms.
