Swedish actor Per Oscarsson is feared dead in a house fire in southwest Sweden, reports say.

Human remains were found in the house after a fire on Friday, and the 83-year-old actor and his 67-year-old wife Kia Ostling are both missing.

Oscarsson won the best actor prize in Cannes in 1966 for his role as starving writer Pontus in Henning Carlsen’s adaptation of the Knut Hamsun novel Hunger. He recently appeared in the trilogy of films based on Stieg Larsson’s Millennium books, as Holger Palmgren, the legal guardian to Lisbeth Salander.

He also acted in more than 100 Swedish films and TV series.

The house, in the small town of Skara, was completely destroyed but the cause of the fire is not known.
