The Reverse has picked up eight awards, including best film and best screenplay, at the Polish Eagles, Poland’s equivalent of the Oscars

The Reverse was named best film yesterday at the Polish Eagles — Poland’s Oscars — and earned debut director Borys Lankosz the Discovery of the Year award.

Polish Shooting Star Agata Buzek picked up the best actress award for her performance in the film as a woman searching for a suitable husband. Screenwriter Andrzej Bart received best screenplay for his simultaneously comic and noirish story.

In total The Reverse received eight Eagles, including best score, best set design, and best costumes.

The Polish Academy last year submitted Lankosz’s film to the Oscar race for best foreign-language film. It won the Grand Prize at the Warsaw International Festival and collected seven awards at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. It is distributed in Poland by Syrena Films, which holds international rights.

The other big winner of the night was Wojciech Smarzowski’s murder mystery Dark House, winning best director, best cinematography, best editing and the Audience Choice Award.
