Berlin’s shooting frenzy continues with Paul W.S. Anderson 3D project.

Paul W.S. Anderson’s 3D action-adventure film The Three Musketeers has become the sixth international production to be co-produced by Studio Babelsberg and shot at the legendary studio complex this year.

Filming of the production of Constantin Film/Impact Pictures with co-producers NEF Productions, New Legacy and Studio Babelsberg began yesterday (Oct 12) at various sound stages in Babelsberg after completing location work throughout Bavaria since the end of August.

The Three Musketeers is Studio Babelsberg’s sixth international co-production this year following the two Dark Castle Entertainment/Joel Silver productions The Apparition and Unknown White Male, Joe Wright’s Hanna, Roland Emmerich’s Anonymous, and Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud’s Chicken With Plums, the first collaboration between Studio Babelsberg, Clou Partners and Celluloid Dreams under the mantle of their joint venture The Manipulators.

In addition, Babelsberg has been a co-producer this year of blue eyes fiction’s German-Austrian-Swedish co-production Yoko by Franziska Buch. The family film based on the bestselling books by children’s author Knister was shooting at the studios in the late summer and will be released in German cinemas by Sony Pictures Releasing in January 2012.

While The Three Musketeers boasts a stellar international cast including Orlando Bloom, Milla Jovovich, Mads Mikkelsen, Christoph Waltz, Logan Lerman, Matthew MacFadyen, Ray Stevenson and Luke Evans, other film projects are also shooting in the German capital at the moment.

Yesterday saw principal photography begin on the long gestating project Hotel Lux which had originally been developed as a feature film by Helmut Dietl and is now being directed by Leander Haussmann.

The tragicomedy set in Moscow in 1938 stars leading German comic Michael “Bully” Herbig, Jürgen Vogel (The Wave) and Thekla Reuten (The American) is being produced by Bavaria Pictures with Colonia Media, Herbig’s own company herbX film- und fernsehproduktion, LI Produktions, Little Shark Entertainment und Pirol Film Produktion. Constantin Film plans to release the film in Germany in autumn 2011 and international sales will be handled by Bavaria Film International.

At the same time, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan began shooting action sequences this week for his new film Don 2 at numerous locations throughout Berlin – from the Berlin Cathedral to the Eastside Gallery – for almost 50 shooting days.

The co-production between India’s Excel Entertainment and Film Base Berlin under the direction of Farhan Akhtar also features the German actor Florian Lukas alongside numerous Indian stars.

Meanwhile, German-born Blerim Destani – who could recently be seen in the lead of Jan Verheyen’s Belgian box-office hit Dossier K – has been joined by Udo Kier, Nicolette Krebitz and Richard Sammel for the shooting of Ivo Traijkov’s The Berlin Project (working title).

Filming of the thriller, which will appear on screen as if in real-time, is taking the cast and crew to such diverse locations as the Olympic Stadium, Tempodrom, the Zoopalast cinema, the Bundestag underground station and the Skylounge in the E-Werk club.
