Spanish director Daniel Sanchez Arevalo’s new $3.7m comedy Primos has been sold to Warner Bros for theatrical distribution in Spain.
Currently in post-production, Primos tells the story of a young man named Diego who dumps his fiancée a few days before their wedding and then years later returns to a small town in search of a childhood sweetheart.
The cast is led by Spanish actors Raul Arevalo (Gordos), Antonio De La Torre (Lope) and Quim Gutierrez (DarkBlueAlmostBlack), with production duties shared between Jose Antonio Felez’ Atipica Films (producers of DarkBlueAlmostBlack and Gordos) and Mod Producciones (Agora, Biutiful).
Primos has been provisionally set for release in Spain on Feb 4, 2011.
Felez has also confirmed to Screen that leading actors Antonio De La Torre and Mario Casas (La Mula, Summer Rain) will star in Atipica’s next project Grupo 7, a $4m co-production with Seville-based outfit La Zanfona Producciones, directed by Alberto Rodriguez (After, 7 Virgins) who is co-writing the script with Rafael Cobos.
Grupo 7 will start shooting in spring next year and is about a police unit that tackles drugs and prostitution in downtown Seville before the 1992 International Expo.
Atipica has targeted February 2012 for the release of Grupo 7 in Spain.
