Facebook VoD firm Screenburn has secured $500,000 of investment and hired Zodiak Rights boss Steve Macallister to its board.

The company provides a VoD platform on Facebook which allows content owners to sell shows and music direct to their fans.

It has previously worked on films with The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney as well as Pulse Films-produced Libertines documentary There Are No Innocent Bystanders.

Lean Investment’s Andrew Weisz led the funding together with Tom Singh, Michael and Simon Blakey from Avonmore Investments.

Macallister, a former BBC Worldwide sales chief, will advise the company on its expansion alongside with Howard Kiedaisch, chief executive of Arts Alliance Media.

Screenburn founder Tom Raffe said: “Content owners may already have thousands or even millions of fans on Facebook, the app works very well to monetise this existing audience.”

Macallister added: “There’s no question that much of the future of long form video content lies with digital streaming. Screenburn is exciting because it offers content owners an opportunity to reach out to people already engaged with a brand or a particular release online.”
