In Cannes, Dutch producer Petra Goedings from Phanta Vision has revealed further details of a groundbreaking film financing scheme in the Netherlands.

Goedings has already tested the scheme on new €3.5 million romantic comedy &Me from director Norbert ter Hall.

During the build up to shooting, Goedings and Hall went on the road to present the project to potential backers…and ended up raising €1.2 million. (300 investors pumped in €4000 each.)

Other backers of the film include NRW, Bruxelles Image, the VAF, the Netherlands Film Fund and Cobo. Cineart has pre-bought Benelux distribution rights.

&ME, starring rising young Spanish actress Verónica Echegui, Rossy De Palma, Teun Luijkx and Mark Waschke, is a Euro-love triangle comedy set in Brussels. It marks the directorial debut of ter Hall, a successful TV director who recently won a directing award from the Dutch Directors Guild for his  hit tv series A’dam - E.V.A.

Having raised funds from small investors, Goedings is now looking to pre-sell the film to the public. Her intention is to pre-market the film to the extent that she pre-sells 80,000 tickets before the film isreleased in the Netherlands. If that works, she will attempt to do the same in Spain, Germany and Belgium – the countries with which the movie is being coproduced.

Sales agents are currently circling the project which is being readied for a spring release in Benelux.
