WCF jury made their selection from 95 submissions from a total of 37 countries, awarding production funds totalling €140,000.

Four new projects have received production backing from the World Cinema Fund (WCF), an initiative of the German Federal Cultural Foundation and the Berlin International Film Festival.

At the 17th jury session, Diep Nguyen Hoang’s Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere [pictured], Benjamin Naishtat’s Historia del Miedo, Byamba Sakhya’s Remote Control and Elvent Kutlug Ataman’s South Facing Wall were awarded production funding totalling €140,000. Hoang’s film received €50,000, while the other three projects each received €30,000.

The WCF jury, consisting of film scholar and curator Viola Shafik (Germany/Egypt), documentary film producer Marta Andreu (Spain), distributor and producer Jan De Clercq (Belgium) and WCF project managers Sonja Heinen & Vincenzo Bugno, made their selection from 95 submissions from a total of 37 countries.

To date in 2012, seven WCF-funded films have premiered at international film festivals, while two were picked as their country’s Best Foreign Language Film Oscar nominee: Death for Sale by Faouzi Bensaidi (Morocco) and Rosario García-Monteros’s Las Malas Intenciones (Peru).

The WCF is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, in cooperation with the Goethe Institut and with the support of the Federal Foreign Office.
