VAF production support to five features and two co-productions.

Five features by young filmmakers and two Flemish minority co-productions are among projects to receive production support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF).

The projects include first-time directors and the new Dardenne brothers film starring Marion Cotillard.

Total production, script and development support in its latest round of funding comes to €2.8m ($3.8m).

Black is the second feature by young Flemish directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (of Image which is currently in post-production). Written by Nele Meirhaeghe, the film is produced by Caviar.

D’Ardennen is Robin Pront’s directorial debut. Based on an original screenplay by actor Jeroen Perceval (Bullhead, Borgman) and Pront, the film is produced by Savage Film (Bullhead).

De derby is the first feature by Lenny Van Wesemael (Dancing With Travolta), based on a screenplay by Geert Verbanck (of the Oscar-nominated short Tanghi Argentini) and Van Wesemael. Production company is Menuet (The Broken Circle Breakdown).

Lee & Cindy C. is Stany Crets’ feature debut, based on his own original screenplay. Production company is Oud België Producties.

Problemski Hotel is the feature film debut of documentary filmmaker Manu Riche (Snake Dance), written by Riche and Steve Hawes, based on the novel by Dimitri Verhulst (The Misfortunates). Cassette for Timescapes is the production company.

VAF also supported two minority Flemish co-productions of which Deux jours, une nuit (Two Days, One Night) by Palme d’Or winning Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne and starring Marion Cotillard has the highest profile. Flemish co-producer is Eyeworks (The Verdict).

La tierra roja by Diego Martinez is the second minority co-production with A Private View (Moscow, Belgium) attached as local co-producer.

Besides production support, the Fund also distributed scriptwriting money to seven feature and medium-length projects and development support to three feature projects in its September 2013 round.
