Mirando Otto and Richard Roxburgh attached to Sue Brooks’ Australian drama.

Fortissimo Films has acquired the global sales rights outside Australia and New Zealand to Driving Back From Dubbo.

It will be directed by Sue Brooks, who also wrote the screenplay and previously made Japanese Story, which screened as part of the official selection at Cannes in 2003.

Lord of the Rings star Miranda Otto and Moulin Rouge’s Richard Roxburgh are signed on to star, while “several A-list international names” are in discussion for the remaining lead role.

The film centres on 15-year-old Cassie, who runs away with her best friend to see her favourite band. Her parents, played by Otto and Roxburgh, enlist the help of an aging private detective to help find her.

Shooting will begin in early 2014 with the completed film scheduled for summer 2014.

Producers are Unicorn Films’ Lizzette Atkins and Gecko Films’ Alison Tilson. Palace Picture  will release the film in Australia.

The deal  was finalized  by Fortissimo  chairman Michael J. Werner and managing director Nelleke Driessen, along with  producer Atkins.

Fortissimo will begin pre-sales at Cannes where its slate include Competition title Borgman and Midnight Screening Monsoon Shootout.
