Winner to be announced at FrightFest in London later this month.

Six short films, made with budgets of under £666, have been selected for the 666 Short Cuts to Hell competition.

The horror shorts, selected from 157 entries, include:

  • Six Degrees of (Limb) Separation, dir. Mikel Iriarte
  • 6 Seconds To Die, dir. Rick James
  • 6 Shooter, dir. David Wayman
  • 6th Sense, dir. Alice Moet
  • 6 Feet Under, dir. Weronika Tofilska
  • Six Feet Under, dir. Joe & Lloyd Stas

The competition was launched by FrightFest and Movie Mogul, in association with Horror Channel, which challenged aspiring filmmakers to make a short horror film – with some restraints.

The rules stated there could only be a maximum of six lines of dialogue, a maximum of six cast and crew members and a maximum budget of £666.

The winner will be announced at London horror festival FrightFest on August 25 after the screening of all six films.

The judging panel includes Horror Channel presenter Emily Booth, FrightFest director Paul McEvoy, Movie Mogul’s John Shackleton, filmmaker Paul Hyett and journalist  Rosie Fletcher.

Director Tom Six is planning to attend subject to his commitments on Human Centipede 3.

The six finalists will also have their films screened on the Horror Channel, with the overall winner receiving £6,666 and the opportunity to develop a feature film under mentorship from Movie Mogul.

6 Feet Under was made by students from the National Film and Television School (NFTS), including director Weronika Tofilska and producer Helen Gladders.

Tofilska, in the second year of her Fiction Directing MA at the NFTS, said: “We entered the ‘Short Cuts to Hell’ competition from a love of filmmaking and our naive enthusiasm that a short film can be made in six hours. It was, although hard work, a truly enjoyable and unforgettable experience. Being recognised for our work means that we can share the fun and joy we had while making the film with viewers.”
