Game Of Thrones, Saturday Night Live, Westworld and The Handmaid’s Tale led the field as the 70th Primetime Emmy nominations were announced on Thursday morning. Game Of Thrones scored 22 nominations in all, SNL 21, Westworld 21 and Handmaid’s 20.
Also making strong showings were The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, with 18 nominations, Altlanta with 16 and The Marvelous Mrs Maisel with 14.
Netflix was the leader among networks and streaming platforms, scoring 112 nominations to HBO’s 108. Last year Netflix had 91 nominations, trailing HBO’s 111.
Samira Wiley and Ryan Eggold presented the nominations from the Wolf Theatre at the Television Academy’s Saban Media Center in Los Angeles.
The 70th Emmy Awards ceremony will take place on September 17 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, with Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost and Michael Che serving as co-hosts.
Last year, The Handmaid’s Tale and Big Little Lies were the leading Emmy winners among scripted shows, with each taking five major awards including, respectively, Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Limited Series. Veep took the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.
