Kurt Russell join the cast of the Marvel sequel, which will move production from London to the US.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2

Marvel Studios has begun principal photography at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is slated to hit UK cinemas on April 28, 2017 and US theatres on May 5, 2017.

The production will shoot at Atlanta’s Pinewood Studios, moving away from the UK where the first instalment shot, at Longcross Studios and Shepperton Studios.

New cast members include Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, Furious 7), Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest) and Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop).

Return cast includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel as the ‘Guardians’ as well as Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan and Sean Gunn.

The film will continue the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.

Producers are Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Nik Korda and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.

The first Guardians of the Galaxy was a surprise hit when it was released in 2014, earning more than $770 million at the worldwide box-office, and holds the record as the most successful debut film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel’s upcoming releases include Captain America: Civil War on April 29, 2016; Doctor Strange, October 28, 2016; Spider-Man, July 7, 2017; and Thor: Ragnarok on October 27, 2017.

Its 2015 releases, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man, have made more than $1.4bn and $519m at the worldwide box office.
