Egypt’s Ismalia International Film Festival has named producer and writer Mohamed Hefzy artistic director.
The event, which focuses on documentaries and shorts, will return for its 16th edition in June this year.
Hefzy, founder of Cairo-based production company Film Clinic, said he is planning a new market at the festival to boost its attraction to international and local film-makers.
“I’ll do my best to make use of my expertise and relations in cinema to launch a successful festival and establish an interactive film market there,” he said.
The schedule will be announced in the coming weeks. The event, run by documentary maker Kamal Abdel Aziz, is funded by the Egyptian Film Centre.
Hefzy produced Ahmed Abdalla’s drama Microphone and Sally El Hosaini’s Sundance winner My Brother the Devil was made in association with Film Clinic.
