EXCLUSIVE: UK firm acquires international rights to Anna Broinowski’s North Korean cinema documentary [pictured].

Carey Fitzgerald’s High Point Media Group has acquired international rights to Anna Broinowski’s Aim High in Creation.

Broinowski’s documentary sees the acclaimed filmmaker explore North Korean cinema and develop a short film according to exact principles dictated by the late “Dear Leader”, Kim Jong Il.

Produced by Lizzette Atkins of Unicorn Films, the film is financed through Screen Australia, Film Victoria, the MIFF Premiere Fund with an Australian theatrical release to be scheduled through Antidote Films.

High Point’s director of acquisitions, Piers Nightingale, commented: “Uniquely daring on just about every level, Aim High in Creation takes us on an extraordinary sideways journey into one of the most hermetically sealed, headline-grabbing nations on the planet. We’re always on the look out for striking originality, so we’re thrilled to be working with the highly talented Anna and Lizzette on this remarkable film.”

“Full of ‘lost in translation’ moments, Aim High in Creation is a revolutionary comedy about propaganda but at its heart it is a deeply moving story about the humanity which binds us together across cultures and ideology,” added Atkins.

The film is currently in post-production and will receive its world premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival, which runs July 25-Aug 11.
