Circe Films’ Rey and Fortuna Films’ La Ultima Tierra have been selected for the latest round of Hubert Bals Fund Plus. 

Each production will receive €50,000 from The Netherlands Film Fund for co-producing a Hubert Bals Fund-supported film.

The second film from Chilean filmmaker Niles Atallah [pictured] whose debut Lucia premiered at San Sebastian in 2010, Rey will be about the romantic visions of a French adventurer who founded his own kingdom in Chili in the 19th century. It will be produced by Chilean company Diluvio with Mômerade (France), Unafilm (Germany) and Circe Films (Netherlands) onboard as co-producers.

La Ultima Tierra is the feature debut of Paraguan director Pablo Lamar whose two earlier shorts I Hear Your Scream and Night Inside premiered at Cannes. Set on a tranquil mountain, the film is being produced by Sapukai Cine from Paraguay and coproduced by the French Mandra Films, the Brazilian Bananeira Filmes and Dutch producer Fortuna Films. 

Run by the Netherlands Film Fund and International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), HBF Plus links Dutch film producers to international co-productions.

The next selection will take place in October 2013.
