IMAX has signed an agreement with Pathé to open a new theatre in Switzerland.

The giant screen, which is to be installed at the Pathé Balexert multiplex in Geneva, will be the first commercial IMAX theatre to be built in Switzerland.

The move will increase Pathé’s total IMAX theatre count in Europe to 12.

Pathé operates the biggest cinema chain in France, the Netherlands and Switzerland. It currently has five IMAX theatres in France and five in the Netherlands as well as one in backlog.

Andrew Cripps, president of IMAX EMEA, said: “As one of the preeminent exhibitors in Europe, Pathé is a strategic partner for our first commercial entry into Switzerland as well as in supporting our broader European expansion.”
