Pichirallo was one of the executives hired by Fox to set up Fox Searchlight where he was promoted to svp before going on to serve as evp at Focus Features.

His next appointment sees him succeed Lamar Sanders as chair of the undergraduate film & television programme in Tisch School Of The Arts (TSOA) at New York University’s Kanbar Institute Of Film And Television, effective thisautumn.

“I am very pleased to announce the addition to our faculty of Joe Pichirallo as arts professor and new chair of Undergraduate Film And Television in the Kanbar Institute,” Dean Mary Schmidt Campbell said.

“His extensive entertainment industry experience coupled with his many years of teaching young filmmakers is the perfect combination to lead the department into the future. “

Pichirallo is a former producer and reporter for The Washington Post. He began his film career with HBO Pictures and served as head of the feature film unit at Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment.

“The opportunity to help the faculty guide the next generation of filmmakers is an irresistible challenge – especially at a time of rapid and fundamental changes in our industry,” Pichirallo said. “I am especially looking forward to continuing the Tisch School’s tradition of turning out standout storytellers.
