UPDATE: The former president of worldwide marketing at Sony and top executive at some of the biggest studios in Hollywood died from a heart attack on Sunday in Santa Monica. He was 62.
Ammer had just secured funding for his new marketing and distribution outfit Clarius Entertainment.
The executive served more than ten years at Fox and went on to work at Andy Vajna’s Cinergi Pictures, Joe Roth’s Revolution Studios, Sony, his own G2 Consulting, Marvel Studios and Relativity Media.
As president of worldwide marketing at Sony he worked on campaigns for the Spider-Man franchise, among others.
Ammer is survived by his wife Mia Ricchiuti Ammer, son Geoffrey Jr, seven, daughter Annie, five, and twin sisters Connie Ulmer and Bonnie Ammer.
Relativity Media released a statement on Monday (10) that read: “All of us at Relativity are extremely saddened by the passing of our friend, Geoffrey Ammer. We have not only lost one of the industry’s most celebrated and passionate professionals, but a kind, warm and generous soul. He leaves behind a legacy of countless triumphant marketing campaigns and unparalleled achievements that will be remembered always. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Mia, his two beautiful children, Geoffrey Jr and Annie, and his large circle of family and friends.”
