The executive will continue to negotiate and help guide the studio’s theatrical digital delivery strategy and is also involved in deal making and assessing 3D releasing strategies.

In his new role Sherr will provide support to the worldwide marketing group and take on some of the department’s administrative affairs. He continues to report to worldwide distribution president Rory Bruer.

Sherr served as svp of worldwide theatrical digital cinema operations since 2006. He joined Sony in 1997 in the motion picture finance and corporate development group and in 2000 segued to Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment, becoming vp of corporate development and strategic planning in 2003. He began his career in investment banking.

“Scott has been a valued member of our executive team overseeing some of our most important areas,” Bruer said. “He has been on the front line of the conversion from 35mm film to digital distribution, which will represent significant strategic and economic benefits for our company.

“Also, as 3D continues to grow, it will become more important than ever for Sony Pictures to leverage the best, new and emerging technologies. In addition to taking on more administrative duties within the division, Scott is overseeing both of these key areas for us worldwide and we’re thrilled to recognise his achievements with this well-deserved promotion.”
