Christine Alderson’s UK production company Ipso Facto has snapped up remake rights to Pieter Kuipers’ thriller Nothing To Lose from Dutch production outfit Pupkin Films.

The deal was negotiated by Los Angeles-based Eccho Remakes, run by Meg Thomson.

Nothing to Lose was one of the first Eccho titles, and it is a film we’re very passionate about,” said Thomson.

“In the original, Kuijper’s direction and Theo Maassen’s performance were both extraordinary. In the English remake, we’re confident that Matthew and Christine will bring a fresh and original take on this already thrilling story.”

The English-language version of Nothing To Lose is to be directed by Matthew Thompson, currently in post-production on Millbrook Pictures-backed Event 15, starring Jennifer Morrison (and also produced by Alderson).

The story will be relocated to the US. It follows, Johan, a prisoner in a psychiatric institution who believes that he has been wrongly convicted of the murders of his father and sister. With a life sentence hanging over his head, he breaks free, hoping to find the person who can clear his name.

“We signed an option last week. It is completely fresh,” Alderson said of what looks set to be Ipso Facto’s second US production.

The original Nothing To Lose was sold internationally by High Point Films and released in the Netherlands by Independent Films.
